The SC Experience

  • Southwestern College Professional Studies Announces Program Enhancements

Wichita, Kansas, August 13, 2018 – Southwestern College Professional Studies today announced the expansion of their Criminal Justice and Security Management online bachelor’s degrees.

Available for enrollment this fall, the enhancements to the Criminal Justice and Security Management degrees provide learners with expanded theory and practical knowledge in these areas for a more competitive foundation from which to launch their careers.

"We are excited about the opportunity to provide learners with these enhanced programs,” said Lionel Santiago, Southwestern College Lead Affiliate Faculty of Criminal Justice & Security Management. “The enhanced content and real-world application in the revised programs will give our learners a competitive edge and better prepare them as they transition to positions within the criminal justice and security management fields.”

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, which includes content from the Naval Post Graduate Center for Homeland Defense and Security, offers learners knowledge in theory as well as operations of the criminal justice system. Curriculum topics include criminology, policing, criminal investigation, criminal law and procedure, cybercrime, community partnerships, corrections, juvenile justice systems, management, and more. Graduates are prepared for a wide range of criminal justice careers, including law enforcement, corrections or the court system.

The Bachelor of Science in Security Management curriculum emphasizes information security, ethics, continuity, corporate risk management, investigations, enterprise security, terrorism, homeland security, and contemporary security issues.  Graduates are prepared for managerial roles in the high demand fields of physical security, loss prevention and investigations, information and homeland security, emergency management, and crime prevention.

Enrollment for these programs is open now, with new classes beginning every six weeks. Admissions counselors are available to assist interested learners with general questions, selecting the best degree program to fit their professional goals, or enrollment via phone, 888.684.5335, or email, enrollment@sckans.edu.

"Thank you so much for all of the information shared during the faculty meeting last night. I really enjoyed it and always come out of them "pumped up" and ready to get back in to the classroom. My next class doesn't start until April but I will be working on my class and making my zoom videos and meetings better and more productive. Southwestern truly is a "different" type of school."

Adjunt Faculty at SCPS

Dr. Pam Green has been very positive and supportive. She has provided wonderful recommendation letters any time I have asked. Her input during my tour of the Education program at Southwestern College was very helpful. When I went back to college to seek a second BA degree so I could obtain my teaching license, Dr. Green made me feel like I could be the educator that I had set my sites on becoming - even as a second career choice.

She made me feel like a valued member of the education program. It has been seven years since I graduated from Southwestern College and I remain in contact with Dr. Green.

2013 Graduate

I loved my experience at Southwestern College - I probably would not have gone back and finished my Bachelor's degree had it not been for the flexible program that was offered.
It was such an intense program, yet I was still able to fit in my classes with my family's schedule - as a matter of fact, my oldest son graduated from high school the same year I graduated from Southwestern, so that made it even more special.
