Military Education Benefits

Southwestern College is approved for VA education benefits and is pleased to accept a full range of benefits and programs for military members, military spouses, and veterans. To determine your eligibility, call the Veterans Benefits Administration at 1-888-GI-BILL-1.

Military Tuition Rates

Exclusive military tuition rates are available to military members and their spouses. See our tuition and fees page for more information.

Tuition Assistance (TA)

Tuition assistance, combined with reduced military rates, can cover a significant portion of education expense for military members. All members eligible must coordinate with education advisors or ESOs or counselor within their military service PRIOR to enrolling to obtain approval for TA. The Post-9/11 Bill

The Post-9/11 Bill is an educational assistance program that provides up to 36 months of benefits to eligible persons for education and training opportunities pursued after August 1, 2009. These benefits may be used for undergraduate and graduate degree programs, vocational and technical training, tutorial assistance, books, supplies and monthly housing. Generally, benefits are payable for 15 years following release from active duty, and may be transferred to spouses or dependent children.

The Montgomery GI Bill® (MGIB)

The Montgomery GI Bill® (MGIB) is an assistance program created to attract quality men and women to the Armed Forces. The MGIB program provides up to 36 months of benefits to eligible persons for education and training opportunities. These benefits may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following release from active duty.

Yellow Ribbon Program

The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. This program allows institutions of higher learning (degree granting institutions) in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution. Eligibility, Benefit and Application information can be found on the VA website.

MyCAA Scholarship (Military Spouses)

The MyCAA Scholarship is an employment assistance program that provides financial assistance to eligible military spouses who are pursuing a license, certification or Associate’s degree in a portable career field and occupation. Learn more at militaryonesource.mil
