WHY CHOOSE SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE?

As a working adult, you want to be able to acquire the skills and knowledge that will enable you to move forward with your career. Our degree programs are designed with the enhancements that help you learn while you balance career and family commitments. Plus, SC is ranked 3rd in Kansas for median graduate salaries by the U.S. Department of Education!

Generous Transfer Policies

Southwestern College offers a dynamic credit transfer policy, allowing adult students to earn up to 94 credits through a variety of options, including military and corporate training, transfer from other institutions, credit by exam, and prior learning. Our staff will work with you to make sure you don’t waste your time or money taking courses you’ve already completed.

Small, Flexible Classes

Balance school, work, and family with our flexible six week class schedule. Most of our courses average 15 or fewer learners providing you with the opportunity to engage individually with your instructor, who knows you by name and cares about your success. It also allows you to learn from others who bring rich experiences to the course through online collaborative sessions.

Applied Learning

Applied learning activities are woven through every degree program at Southwestern College Professional Studies. Faculty are practitioners in their fields, bringing real-world scenarios to the classroom. Students can expect to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained through coursework to simulations, case studies, and a variety of other types of applied projects and exercises. Final projects completed at the end of the degree programs further enhance the learning experience by combining program learning with relevant professional experience. This applied learning better prepares graduates to tackle the challenges in their current or future careers.

Access to Student Resources

We care about your entire experience and journey with us. That’s why we provide you with several student resources, including your own Academic Success Coach who serves as an additional point of contact during your time as a Professional Studies learner. Your coach is here to encourage you, help resolve problems, guide you in course selection, remind you when it is time to register, and help you find the answers to your questions and concerns.

High Quality Faculty

Our instructors are practitioners, which means they do what they teach every day. They teach you the academic background as well as theory and principles as they demonstrate how they use this in the world. Assignments are practically focused, so you can apply your knowledge to real-world situations in and out of the classroom.

Peer Engagement

Our programs are designed to allow you to apply tomorrow what you learned today. You learn from the course, the instructor, and your peers; each bringing you an interesting and varied work history to the course. Our online classes make it easier for you to attend class on your time, not ours. No matter what career you are already in or schedule you are on, you are sure to find bachelor’s or master’s degree programs that fit your unique life here at Southwestern College Professional Studies.

Military Friendly

We proudly educate our service members. Our six-week online classes provide members of the military and their spouses the flexibility they need in order to balance time with their families and their job serving our country. While working toward their degree with us, military learners and their spouses receive tuition discounts as well as academic coaches, who remain with them throughout the duration of their college experience. With a location at Ft. Riley, we have admissions representatives available to our military learners to make their time at Southwestern College go smoothly.

130 Years of Experience

Not all online degree programs are created equal. You can feel confident earning a degree online with Southwestern College Professional Studies knowing that we are a nonprofit, regionally-accredited institution with a strong foundation in traditional education tailored to today’s learner.

Eight Enrollment Sessions Per Year

Southwestern College Professional Studies offers six-week sessions (the only exception are classes offered within the education curriculum) that begin eight times per year. We’ve found this schedule to be extremely helpful to adult learners who want a quality education in a condensed time period. Our schedule also allows you the flexibility to stop and start if your personal schedule demands you do so. Enrollment generally begins two weeks prior to the start of classes and we’ve developed an enrollment calendar to assist you. With eight enrollment sessions a year, Professional Studies also takes a two-week class break the end of June and again in December. During these class breaks, all Professional Studies offices remain open to assist you.
