As a working adult, you want to be able to acquire the skills and knowledge that will enable you to move forward with your career. At Southwestern College Professional Studies, we know and understand the adult learner. Our degree programs are designed with the enhancements that help you learn while you balance career and family commitments.
Most of our courses average 15 or fewer learners providing you with the opportunity to engage individually with your instructor, who knows you by name and cares about your success. It also allows you to learn from others who bring rich experiences to the coure through online collaborative sessions.
Southwestern College Professional Studies offers six-week sessions (the only exception are classes offered within the education curriculum) that begin eight times per year. We’ve found this schedule to be extremely helpful to adult learners who want a quality education in a condensed time period. Our schedule also allows you the flexibility to stop and start if your personal schedule demands you do so. Enrollment generally begins two weeks prior to the start of classes and we’ve developed an enrollment calendar to assist you. With eight enrollment sessions a year, Professional Studies also takes a two-week class break the end of June and again in December. During these class breaks, all Professional Studies offices remain open to assist you.
Our programs are designed to allow you to apply tomorrow what you learned today. You learn from the course, the instructor, and your peers; each bringing you an interesting and varied work history to the course. Our online classes make it easier for you to attend class on your time, not ours. No matter what career you are already in or shedule you are on, you are sure to find undergraduate or graduate programs that fit your unique life here at Southwestern College Professional Studies.
Southwestern College allows adult students to earn up to 64 credits through a variety of options, including military and corporate training, transfer from other institutions, credit by exam, and prior learning. We have a dynamic credit transfer policy, including up to 94 credits in our RN to BSN program. Our staff will work with you to make sure you don't waste your time or money taking courses you've already completed.
We care about your entire experience and journey with us. That's why we provide you with your own Academic Success Coach who serves as a resource during your time as a Professional Studies learner. Your coach is here to encourage you, help resolve problems, guide you in course selection, remind you when it is time to register, and help you find the answers to your questions and concerns.
Our instructors are practitioners, which means they do what they teach every day. They teach you the academic background as well as theory and principles as they demonstrate how they use this in the world. Assignments are practically focused, so you can apply your knowledge to real-world situations in and out of the classroom.
We proudly educate our servicemen and women. Our six-week online classes provide members of the military and their spouses the flexibility they need in order to balance time with their families and their job serving our country. While working toward their degree with us, military learners and their spouses receive tuition discounts as well as academic coaches, who remain with them throughout the duration of their college experience. With locations one mile north of McConnell Air Force Base and at Ft. Riley, we have admissions representatives available to our military learners to make their time at Southwestern College go smoothly.
