But what exactly is quality management and what will it prepare you for? Here are some basics of the field and what you can expect to learn.

What is Business Quality Management?

Business quality management, also referred to as quality management, is the oversight of every activity and task needed to be achieved in order to meet and maintain a desired level of quality in an organization. It’s pivotal in order for businesses to increase their productivity, customer satisfaction, employee loyalty, and enriched work environment. Those who have knowledge in quality standards are highly valued in a number of industries around the globe.

What you can expect to learn

Program curricula will vary from institution to institution, but learners can expect to explore a wide range of subject matter imperative to quality management. Many programs will include courses that examine business quality management methods and practices that are used in manufacturing settings which align with a business’ objectives. Learners can expect to use qualitative and quantitative data to assess possible risk or quality issues, and design potential solutions to those problems. Most programs will introduce learners to quality management tools such as LEAN, Six Sigma, and the International Standards Organization (ISO) standards and quality management systems, all of which are used in order to achieve continuous process and technique improvements. While certifications are done separately, learners will graduate with knowledge that will be useful when they are ready for ISO, LEAN or Six Sigma certifications. Those earning this degree will also engage in courses related to project management, finance, data analysis, effective communication and teamwork, and even conflict resolution.

What are the career possibilities?

Because quality management is so vital to the prosperity of organizations and businesses, those who earn a quality management degree can pursue careers in a wide variety of industries. Quality assurance-related positions are in high demand in technology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, and even banking.
