Sadie Coffey

What is your hometown?

Mulvane, KS

What degree did you earn and from where?

I earned my B.S. in Communication from Emporia State University

What made you decide to pursue a career in college admissions?

When I was a student at ESU, I was a student ambassador for a few years and loved getting to tell people about the university. I love helping people find the place that they will get to call their alma mater.

What is the best part about your job assisting adult learners?

The best part for me is seeing how motivated and excited the learners are to earn their degree. For many learners, it has been awhile since they attended school, so getting to help them finish what they started is awesome.

What have you found makes adults most hesitant about getting back to school and what do you say to help reassure them?

I think many adults are hesitant because it has been awhile since they have been in school and they are not sure if they have the time to devote to their studies. I let them know that they have a support system at Southwestern; they will always be working with somebody to help make things easier. I also let them know that since we offer six-week online courses, they can focus on one course at a time which makes it easier to devote time and allows for flexibility.

What is one thing about online college education that you would tell someone considering it?

I would say that online college education is just as valid and worthy as traditional education and that this is a great route if you need the flexibility to do schoolwork on your own time.

What do you love most about working for Southwestern College Professional Studies?

I love that I get to help people take that first step to earning a degree. I also love the atmosphere of Professional Studies and the people I work with!
