Sam Clark

What is your hometown?

McPherson, KS

What degree did you earn and from where?

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from the University of Kansas. I also earned my Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.

What made you decide to pursue a career in college admissions?

When I was looking at which school to go to, the admissions teams played a key role in my decision. I enjoy helping students in their decision process and showing them what Southwestern College Professional Studies has to offer. In addition, I have always wanted a career in higher education where I can work with college students.

What is the best part about your job assisting adult learners?

I enjoy hearing what each student wants to do when they are finished with their degree. It is always rewarding getting a student started towards their academic goals.

What have you found makes adults most hesitant about getting back to school and what do you say to help reassure them?

I find that most students don’t think their previous college coursework will transfer. Southwestern College makes it very easy and is very generous with accepting transfer coursework. If the student has an unofficial copy of their transcripts, we can give them a good idea of what they will have left to complete their degree.

What is one thing about online college education that you would tell someone considering it?

I would recommend making a weekly schedule that designates time for reading, completing assignments, studying, etc. Life can get hectic at times, therefore this is a good way to keep yourself accountable and make sure you are successful in classes.

What do you love most about working for Southwestern College Professional Studies?

I love the team that we have put together at Professional Studies! Everyone is so nice and focused on putting the students first.
