2020 Graduation Checklist

February 3, 2020 10:39am

Congratulations! Whether you are wrapping up your last few classes or you’ve already completed all course requirements – your efforts and perseverance are worth celebrating! Graduation is just a few months away and this checklist should help you ensure you complete the last few steps to earning that degree! If you’ve already started some of these tasks, great! You’re that much closer!

1. Submit your application for degree

Students who plan to graduate must complete a graduation application before April 1, 2020. This is required, even if you do not plan to attend the commencement ceremony in May. If you do plan to attend commencement, please indicate this on the application for degree. If you intend to receive your diploma by mail, please log into Self-Service to ensure that your address is up-to-date. A copy of the application is enclosed, or you can access the application online.

2. Pay any remaining balance

Your account must be paid in full and any payment plans completed before your diploma is released by the Registrar. For questions regarding your account or balance, please visit the Student Accounts webpage, or contact the Office of Student Accounts: 800-846-1543 ×6251 or E-mail: Accounts@sckans.edu.

To check your balance:

1. Log into Self-Service
2. Select the Finance Tab
3. Select the Balance subtab

To make a payment:

4. Log into Self-Service
5. Select the Finance Tab
6. Select the ePayment subtab
7. Select Make A Payment

3. Complete Loan Exit Counseling

Students who have received a subsidized, unsubsidized or PLUS loan(s) under the Direct Loan Program or the FFEL Program, must complete exit counseling when graduating. Please allow 20-30 minutes to complete.

1. Navigate to: studentaid.gov
2. Sign in and complete Exit Loan Counseling.

4. Order Your Cap and Gown (and other graduation materials)

Academic regalia – caps, gowns – are worn by all members of the college community who participate in the commencement ceremony. The academic gown is the basic commencement garment and is black. Those graduates receiving the masters or doctoral degree have a hood in the color reflecting their degree. A tassel, attached to the center of each cap, should be worn on the right side of the face. Balfour/CB is the official provider of materials for Southwestern College.

5. RSVP to the SC Professional Studies Graduation Lunch

Graduates and their guests are invited to join us for a light lunch reception prior to the graduation ceremony. Come connect with other Professional Studies graduates, meet your academic success coach, and grab a bite with some faculty members. Reservations are required and can be made here.

6. Stay Connected

The Southwestern College Alumni Office offers a great way to stay connected to SC after graduation! Connect with alumni, stay informed about events on campus and in your area, and take advantage of other graduate services.
