Transfer Credits and Training

Earn the credit you deserve and complete your degree more quickly! Southwestern College has a generous credit transfer policy that considers a variety of learning experiences and environments, including those that take place outside the classroom. We award up to 94 credit hours towards your bachelor’s degree; credits are awarded in accordance with ACE guidelines. Contact us for a complimentary transfer credit review. You can earn college credit in a variety of ways.



College Transfer Credit

Southwestern College will accept up to 64 credits in transfer from our education partner institutions or other regionally accredited institutions and others recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Generally, comparable courses with an earned grade of “C” or better will be accepted as transfer. Credit earned for varsity athletics or remedial coursework is not accepted. 

Students with prior college must submit official transcripts from each institution within four weeks from the first day of their first class. Students may be provisionally accepted to the institution until official transcripts are received.

Credit by Examination

DSSTs/DANTES Subject Standardized Tests

Southwestern College Professional Studies wants to give you credit for knowledge you have learned outside of the traditional classroom. One of the ways we do this is by accepting DSST Examinations (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests). There are DSST Examinations in 37 undergraduate college subject areas. If you are interested in learning more about the DSST examinations (including fact sheets, study guides, and practice tests) visit the website.

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

CLEP exams test mastery of college-level material acquired in a variety of ways through general academic instructions, significant independent study or extracurricular work. There are 33 CLEP exams offered in areas such as History and Social Sciences, Composition and Literature, Science and Mathematics, and Business and World Languages. Credit for Military Training

Southwestern College Professional Studies helps you maximize your military service by applying credit for military training toward the completion of your degree requirements. Up to 64 credit hours (depending on the level of the training) may be transferred from CCAF/USCGI/JST transcripts.
