Every learner at Southwestern College Professional Studies is assigned an academic success coach (ASC), who will be your support throughout your entire academic program. Your ASC plays a critical role in the your educational journey. Our ASC’s are full-time coaches, meaning they are truly focused on you and your success. This person will create and maintain your degree plan, help you with course selection and be your resource if any issues should arise with your classes, enrollment, or anything else at Professional Studies.
Academic success coaching takes academic advising to the next level. The academic success coach is prepared with the tools and best practices needed to help you persist to achieve your individual educational goals. Each academic success coach is committed to proactive learner contact, providing the necessary level of support for an optimal educational experience.

Bryant Devine was a Team Leader in the Army, serving tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is an active member of the Free Masons and enjoys volunteering at his daughter’s school. His leadership skills and experiences as an adult learner are excellent resources for an academic success coach. He is a graduate of Southwestern College with a Master's of Science in Management degree.

Erica Fanello joined the Southwestern College Professional Studies’ team in May 2012. She is an academic success coach, working primarily with graduate and undergraduate education and RN to BSN learners. Erica previously worked as a PreK – 8th grade teacher, and then as a substitute teacher for USD 259 (Wichita, Kan.) in a variety of classroom settings. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Religious Studies degree, with minors in Education and Psychology, from Benedictine College. She graduated with her Masters of Arts in Teaching: Professional Educator from Morningside College in August 2014.

Marlyce “George” Hindman serves as an Academic Success Coach. She works closely with our new learners and strives to help them make their education goals a reality. George has been with the college since 2008. She understands the time management from an adult learner's perspective as she is currently enrolled in classes.

Karen comes to Southwestern College with several years of experience in Higher Education. She has served as Manager of Instructional Development, training career professionals for faculty positions in the classroom and previously as Director of Admissions for student recruitment, advising, retention and leadership. Karen attended Kansas State University and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Wichita State University. Karen is an avid community volunteer, working specifically with children and youth to educate and prepare them for continuing their education at the college or university level.
